Kirk, the boomers had better accommodations than the fast boats, but on the down side the fast attacks had better liberty as the made more port calls.
Thanks for your service from myself and Subase Pearl Harbor Det. 716.

Very much enjoyed the story and was once again reminded of the greatness of our World War II veterans. Ernie's ingenuity is a example of what made them great. I was also delighted to note that Ernie had the opportunity at age 94 to visit Washington D.C.

Many more years of good life Ernie.

Thanks Jim for taking the time to leave a comment.
I enjoyed interviewing him and writing his story.
Ernie's story is the fourth story I have had the honor to write. The other three are: two Navy WW II vets and one Marine. Sadly the Marine who served in WW II and later in the Vietnam War passed away only a few days after the story was posted.
Their stories can be read by logging onto this page: [<a href="" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" title=""></a>]

This page was helpful as I grieve the loss of Guy Rowe, a fine man who was an excellent example of what a Marine can be to all of us. He was very smart, but also wise and compassionate. He had a good sense of humor and a deep sense of commitment to the community.
Thank you for posting this page!

Thanks Gail.
It was an honor to write his story and be allowed to share it. He deserved nothing less.
My only regret is not having met this true American. I had planned to visit him but due to a death in my family was called out of town and was in Springfield Missouri when I received word of his passing.

A gracious Thank You for a wonderful book in the making that honors the exquisite Men and Women of the United States Military. I appreciated seeing one of the last pictures of my deeply loved brother, Steven Phillip Doerfler (WESTPAC KIDD), before just entering eternal patrol, 03/06/12 Kindly, Luana

Launa, I wish to thank you for the kind words.
Our men and women in uniform and our veterans deserve the very best.
If this website and the information posted in some way conveys to these fine men and women "Thank You" I have done my job and am pleased.
